A master of knowledge was walking through a forest with his loyal disciple and follower when he saw afar, a very poor little farm and decided to visit. During the path, he told his disciple about the importance of visiting and opportunities of learning we have even with people we dont know very well.
When they got to the small farm they was poverty : there were no floors, the house was made of wood, the people - a couple and 3 children - were all wearing dirty and ripped chothing. The master walked u to the one, apparently the father of that family and asked: " Here there is no commerece, no work. How do you and your family survive? "The man, calmy answered : " My dear friend, we have a cow that gives us many liters of milk every day. Part of this product we sell or exchange in the city nearby for other kinds of food we need. Another art of this we make cheese, yougurt and other kinds of things for our own needs. This is how we survive."
The wise man thanked them for the information, looked around once more and left. In the middle of the way back, he turned to his loyal disciple and said: "Young man, take that cow and push her off the cliff." His young and loyal disciple opened his eyes wide in surprise, and even without understanding, he followed his masters order, took the cow to the cliff and pushed her off.
During years, that scene left a deep mark on the young disciples memory. Years later, he decided to leave everything, including his master, and go back to that farm to ask the familys forgivness and help them with whatever was needed to compensate then for killing their cow.
When the boy returned to that same place, in the distance he saw a beautiful farm, full of fruit trees, cars in the garage, children playing in the garden. Very very sad, he found himself thinking of the family having to sell the run down farm in order to survive.
Picking up his pace to get there as soon as he could, he was greeted by a caretaker and asked where the family who used to live there before went. The man answered " They continue living here".Shocked they young man entered the house and saw it was the same family. He turned to the owner of the cow and asked " Sir, how were you able to do so well in life?"
The farmer answered " We had a cow that fell off a cliff and died. Without that cow we had to do other things we have never done before. We started to plant, bring up other animals, think of different ways of survival and that, made us realize we were capable of doing things we had never imagined doing before. This is how we got to be where we are. "
- We all have a cow that keeps us slave of old routines and habits...Find it and throw it off the cliff... now what?
